“My name is Yasmin, and I joined ODGroup as a Human Resources placement student for nine months as part of my degree. I was drawn to ODGroup because of its reputation as a leading office interiors company in London, and I wanted to gain experience in a fast-paced, people-focused environment where I could see how HR supports the success of a business.
During my placement, I acted as a key point of contact for HR, supporting both day-to-day operations and longer-term projects. I was involved in the full recruitment process, and I contributed to projects across the whole employee lifecycle. I was able to shadow and take part in professional meetings which gave me a clearer understanding of professional collaboration and how decisions are made.
Alongside this, I had the chance to go on three site visits, which was a fantastic way to see ODGroup’s work in action. And a personal highlight was presenting at a company update, where I showcased the HR team’s work and upcoming plans.
This placement gave me exposure to the full range of HR processes and how they operate within a business. I gained valuable skills in organisation, communication, and project coordination, and I developed a stronger understanding of the way ODGroup focuses on collaboration and sustainability across everything it does.
One of the things that stood out most was the supportive and collaborative culture at ODGroup. From day one, I felt encouraged to learn, ask questions, and contribute. As my first professional work experience, everything I encountered here was new and unexpected, but it has given me a picture of how HR contributes to both people and business success.
