Od Group has been identified as one of London Stock Exchange Group’s 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain. The report is a celebration of the UK’s fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium sized businesses across the UK.

The Mixology Awards are unique. Judged by an independent panel of experienced architects, designers, creatives and consultants, the Awards concentrate entirely on the commercial interiors market (office, hospitality, public sector and education).  This blend of relevance, independence and focus is why the Mixology Awards are deemed the best in the industry.

Back in 2008, Od carried out the fit out of ICAEW’s business centre in Moorgate. 9 years later we have been back, alongside Rider Levett Bucknell, Perkins + Will and TB+A to refit the same space with stunning results.

As part of the fit out for a private Hedge Fund client in Mayfair, Od Solutions installed a steel and stone staircase between two floors. The design incorporated bronze balustrades with a timber handrail in keeping with the design of the staircase in the buildings main reception,

The original programme of 18 weeks for the staircase would result in the final installation being installed in a live office environment.

Although this was acceptable for the client, Od endeavoured to accelerate the programme to ensure the works were installed during the fit-out phase, reducing the programme by 2 weeks.

This two week saving was made possible through close communication with the staircase manufacturer and the design team.

Programme saving: 2 weeks

In order to achieve this reduced programme a number of key milestones and innovations were introduced to reduce the critical path of the delivery and installation:

The building restrictions prevented the structural opening being formed during normal working hours and the location of the building (opposite The Grosvenor Hotel) prevented works outside of normal working hours.

A close working relationship with Westminster Council and “quiet” construction techniques enabled the works to be completed in 5 days without any noise complaints or interruptions.

The stone treads were sourced in Italy and templates of the treads were provided directly to the stone supplier to enable the treads to be preformed prior to shipping. This saved crucial time in the delivery of the treads which was critical in the final completion date.

The installation team worked in shifts to maximise the number of operations that could take place in a single space, for example, the stone treads were installed during the night and the balustrades were installed during the day.

The staircase was completed on time and prior to occupation ensuring no disruption to our client.

2015 / 08 / 04We have moved!

In 2014/2015 Od Group turnover increased from £26million to £36million. 

Our strategic growth will continue into 2015/16 with a projected turnover of in excess £50million with £35million already secured.

With controlled growth comes an increased resource requirement - our staff are now 70 strong and we were a little short of office space! We have therefore moved to a new 6,000 sqft office over one floor, at 55 Old Broad Street

Od Group have established and documented an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with the requirements of the International Standard BS EN 1SO 14001:2004.  During this time we have implemented, maintained and continually improved the EMS in accordance with our environmental policy.As a result of these measures, we passed our ISO 14001 stage 2 Audit in April 2015 and are now fully accredited.  The accreditation formalises the sustainable practice we had already introduced at Od Group and gives our clients confidence that we are effectively managing our environmental responsibilities as a contractor.

We’re enormously proud to have worked with Gensler to deliver an attractive new administrative HQ for the wonderful people at Tower Hamlets Foodbank. Through the generosity of our subcontractors we’ve been able to deliver this project completely free of charge to Tower Hamlets so a special thanks to:

The Tower Hamlets Foodbank Project is an innovative multi-faceted care delivery initiative. Those most in need in society are given emergency food parcels, enough to last them three days minimum, but importantly the Foodbank also acts as a referral point for further social services helping to ensure that people can access the help and support they need.

2014 / 10 / 31How to Build a Lab - a Guide from Od Interiors

The UK’s target spend on the R&D sector is set to grow to £35 billion (http://bit.ly/1pDrm8s) according to the Lisbon Treaty. As a result this are meant huge changes to our infrastructure. There is a real need, sometimes with difficulty, to retrofit some of our existing commercial spaces to meet the needs of industry.

Our recent project; a fit out for Biocompatibles UK (BTG) (http://bit.ly/1rq8lNa) encountered several challenges that were met by Od Interiors. Almost every stage of the fit out process had to be adapted in order to create these environments. Firstly, and most importantly, a services consultant with lab experience is vital. Usually we would expect design development by both the designers and architects with M&E being woven in around the design. For a lab fit out, this demands an entirely different approach.

The draw on incoming services is almost double that of a normal office space, and this has a dramatic effect on plant area needs but also subtler areas such as risers and ceiling and floor voids. By involving a talented services consultant at an early stage, our designers are armed with the limitations of the space. This ensues Od can provide better designs and reduce clashes at later stages of the project.

Extremely specialist equipment such as ATEX rated air handling for explosive environments add significant additional lead times to the early programme. Specialist furniture that is plumbed and hardwired places demands on the normal sequencing of a project. This involves trades that would not typically work together to collaborate during the construction process to ensure project success.

The programme is further compounded by the additional commissioning needs of a project with such advanced M&E services. One can expect to double the usual 2-3 week period as part of closing out. As always, a safe and clean site facilitates smooth and productive working; but of course, the need to have a carefully considered programme with appropriate sequencing is paramount.

Any main contractor approaching a lab fit out should be prepared to invest heavily in the pre-construction phase and ensure that project teams are well formed. This would also involve relevant specialist expertise and the establishment of clear and effective lines of communication between the all relevant stakeholders.

Od has now been instructed to proceed with another exciting project at BTG’s HQ based on the successful management and execution of this first phase.

We are pleased to announce a number of recent project wins for the Od Interiors Team:

This includes an exciting £2m project for Second Homes Ltd to create a new co-working office space in Brick Lane for creative businesses as recently featured in the Evening Standard. We will be working with their professional team Jackson Coles and Spanish architect, Selgos Cano.

We have also just secured another fit-out project for our long-term client Royal London. The £2m project consists of the strip out and CAT B fit-out of the second and third floors of 55 Gracechurch Street, having recently completed their clients suites and reception on level 4.

Finally, Od Interiors can announce they have been appointed by Regus to deliver a CAT B project tosubdivide open plan floor space to create separate offices at 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf.

Od Group want to help make a positive impact on the lives of those around us and as such, each year we are proud to make a corporate donation to two specially selected charities.

In 2014 we are supporting Cystic Fibrosis, a charity promoting excellence in research and clinical care, as well as providing practical support and advice to people with cystic fibrosis and their families and Action for A-T, a charity funding high-quality research into the debilitating and life-shortening childhood illness Ataxia-Telangiectasia.

Kieran Cornwell, Senior Strategic Partnership Manager at the Cystic Fibrosis Trust said: ‘Many thanks to the Od Group for their generosity in donating to support our work in beating cystic fibrosis. Over 10,000 people in the UK live with the condition and 2.5million people carry the faulty gene, 1 in 25 of us. To achieve our goal we fund research to better understand and treat cystic fibrosis, review standards of care, and provide information and advice to the cystic fibrosis community. In 1964, a child born with cystic fibrosis was lucky to reach 5, in 2014, more than half of people reach 40. With the help of organisations like the Od Group, we can ensure people with cystic fibrosis will one day have the same opportunity to grow old as anyone else.’

As well as these initial donations, we will be organising a number of company wide events to help raise further funds for these organisation’s and continue to support them in their amazing work.

We are pleased to announce a number of recent tender wins across Od Group:

Od Projects has just secured another refurbishment project for our long-term client - prime residential developers Finchatton. The £9m project consists of the refurbishment of five houses and four apartments in Knightsbridge covering a total of 46,500 sq ft.

Od Interiors has won a £2.7m fit out of 25,000 sq ft for First State Investments, part of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia working with Gensler, Mace and Hoare Lea.
